Chichen Itza
Ancient Mayan city located about 2h30 from Playa del Carmen, between Valladolid and Merida. The site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has been designated one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Admire the Pyramid of Kukulcan, the most impressive temple in the Yucatan, renowned for its impeccable architecture, 91 steps and meticulous geometry.
This excursion can include a visit to Valladolid, a typical Yucatan town, lunch in a Mayan community, and a refreshing swim in a beautiful cenote.
Coba
Archaeological site of the Mayan civilization located about a hundred kilometers from Playa del Carmen and 40km from Tulum. The main pyramid of Coba stands 42m high, the tallest structure in the north of the Yucatan — it's still possible to climb to the top. The site is vast and set in the jungle, making it a great spot to explore on foot or by bike.
This excursion includes a typical lunch with a Mayan family and a swim in a beautiful cenote. It can be combined with a visit to Punta Laguna or the archaeological site of Tulum.
Punta Laguna
Located 20 minutes from the Coba ruins, this is a nature reserve and national park. It's home to several Mayan families who care for their cultural heritage while offering activities such as spider monkey watching, canoeing on the lagoon, and swimming in an incredible cenote.
This excursion is typically organized after visiting the Coba ruins and includes a typical local lunch with a Mayan family.
Tulum
Mayan ruins 65km south of Playa del Carmen. The site sits on a rocky promontory right on the ocean, giving it striking character — alongside the Mayan remains you'll enjoy a splendid view of the Caribbean Sea!
This excursion can be combined with a visit to Coba, including a swim in a beautiful cenote and a local meal with a Mayan family.
Sian Ka'an
Sian Ka'an (“origin of the sky” in Mayan) is a UNESCO World Heritage nature reserve south of Tulum, reached by a jungle track traveled by jeep.
The reserve is made up of tropical forest, marshes and mangroves, with abundant wildlife — including more than 300 bird species you can spot on a boat ride. You'll cool off in crystal-clear blue waters and discover the Caribbean's marine biodiversity, its corals and colorful fish, while snorkeling. If you're lucky, you might even spot dolphins and turtles.
